Artist Statement
- Matthew OKane
- Travel, time and concentrated details of images speed past the audience. Drawings and photographs of both national and international regions create subtle energy and movement. My work builds on the idea of the public’s hunger for the rapid consumption of images. In contemporary society media has become a clarification of consciousness. The charcoal drawings and animated photographic collage are self-referential, highlighting the process of translation from the real to an imaginary realm. The installation encourages the mind to contemplate the specific use of the space. The work is a success, if can be said to induce a hypnotic state in the audience, in its numerous nature. For four years I studied in the National College of Art and Design on Thomas St Dublin. I graduated in 2006, I then went on to study an MSC in Multimedia at Dublin City University and greduated in 2007.
